London Wedding Photographer – Christine and Phil

I’ve been excited about this wedding for over a year so I’m really pleased to present the first photographs from Christine and Phil’s incredible London/Chinese wedding. This was the first Chinese wedding I’ve photographed and I had an absolute ball.

The day started early, with Phil and his ushers arriving at Christine’s house just after dawn. As tradition dictates, before Phil was let in to see his bride Christine’s bridesmaids (well, ‘sisters’) had a host of ‘door games’ planned so Phil could prove that he was worthy of seeing her. There were thongs to wear, wasabi paste to brush their teeth with and some awesome silly dancing. Only one neighbour complained, which was pretty good given how uproarious and noisy the fun was. Once Phil was finally allowed in there was a tea ceremony, with Christine and Phil pouring tea for their elders. We then went to Phil’s house for a tea ceremony with his family. On the way to China Town for the (amazing) wedding banquet we stopped at Bank for a fun few minutes of pics with some of the wedding party.

It was an incredible day – as you can see from the photographs there was lots of laughter and love, and a whole load of amazing food. Thanks to Christine and Phil for including me (and thanks for sending me the chocolates afterwards – so sweet of you).

Fulham family photographer – Max and Madeline

Winchester Wedding Photographer – what a sweet email

OK, a final post that I should have written last year! Here are some lovely words from Annie and Phil, who married at the Hospital of St Cross in Winchester last year.

Hi Sarah,

We loved having you as our photographer and everyone commented on how brilliantly you did, how hard you were working and how charming and lovely you were. So great to have a familiar and friendly face, thank you so much! I never knew I could be quite so bossy until it came to getting the “official” photos done, you were brilliant and very patient with everyone being distracted! Thank you for speeding through those it was great to have a bit of time to walk around the garden to chat to people as well as get all those piccies.

The ones you’ve put up on the blog are stunning, I was quite emotional seeing them, you’re very talented at capturing the moment so well.

Barn at Bury Court Wedding – kind words from the happy couple

Here’s another quick catch up post that I never found time to post last year. Here’s a really sweet email from Nadia and Anthony who got married at the stunning Barn at Bury Court in Surrey last summer.

Dear Sarah

Thank you SO much for a fantastic job on Friday. I know we haven’t seen the images, but we just wanted to say how professional you were, unintrusive and upbeat all day. We really appreciate the fact that you stayed later than agreed to capture the first dance. It got very messy after you left!!

So the sun came out and I think everyone had a great day. Well done for getting all those group shots done in time.

You were brilliant and we will recommend you to all our friends.

Grittenham Barn Wedding Photography – a word from the father of the bride

Here’s a very belated post after Katie and Charlie’ wedding last year at Grittenham Barn. Katie’s (very lovely) father sent me an email (and then called me as well) to tell me how happy they were with the pictures. This made me very happy (it still gives me goosebumps to read!). He was keen for me to use it on this website, and in fact told me to re-write it to say anything I wanted….but I couldn’t think of a way to make it sound any nicer.

Dear Sarah,

Thank you so so much for the wonderful photos you have taken of the wedding day. The mood, the setting and atmosphere you have captured are truly brilliant. Carole and I are really grateful to have such a permanent memory with your photos of what was a truly magical day.

How you managed to achieve these from the organised chaos of the getting ready at our house thru to the ceremony etc I just don’t know. You have a wonderful eye and charming personality and it was as if you were part of the family for the day and just blended in and took the photos of the people acting naturally. What a star. You can be part of our family again anytime you wish.

2011 in weddings – stunning dresses, lots of kisses and a whole load of love

Wow, what a year! Work-wise, 23 stunning brides and handsome grooms asked me to share their special day, I had 40+ families to capture and a smattering of exciting different commissions. On a personal front it was an amazing year as I had a baby, Charlie, in February.

So here’s a quick round up of some of my favourite images of the year. When people ask me about my wedding photography I talk about how I aim to take natural, beautiful shots in an unobtrusive (and non-annoying!) way, but I also explain how my aim is to try and capture the happiness of the occasion, and some of those special glances and moments that show how much love there is at every wedding. Not just the love between the bride and groom, but also the bride and her father, or the groom and his brother, or a bunch of old friends who haven’t all been together for years.

Whilst looking back at these photographs of such beautiful wedding days one word springs to mind – joy. Which in my book means I’ve successfully done my job. So, have a look at the pictures and do let me know in the comments what you think of the images.

As well as love there’s a whole lot of laughing (and even a bit of whooping) at every wedding.

And whilst I love lots of laughter in a wedding, I have to say I do like to see a few tears too (of happiness, of course). Unfortunately if I see someone crying I’m often inclined to shed a tear too (luckily I can hide behind my camera so people don’t normally notice!).

Of course, I have to remember the central part of every wedding – a couple, in love, promising to spend the rest of their lives together.

This year I’ve been lucky to work at some fantastic wedding venues – some old favourites like Gate Street Barn and the Barn at Bury Court in Surrey and Grittenham Barn in West Sussex as well as some new venues for me e.g. Greyfriars, the Tudor Barn and Upwaltham Barns. I’ve also loved the beautiful place settings at the weddings – my favourite was where old novels were used as place names. Genius!

Guildford Wedding Photographer – Pauline and Tony

Here are some of the photographs from my last wedding of the year. And what a lovely wedding! I was only there for the ceremony, which was at Guildford Register Office (what a pretty Register Office, right?!), but it was plenty of time to see how happy Pauline and Tony are together. The weather the day before had been atrocious, but the wedding day was an absolutely stunning, crisp December day – the perfect intimate winter wedding.

Surrey Family Photographer – James at two years old

Here are some of the images from my third trip to see James – I first met him when he was only a few days old (here are his newborn photographs) and then a year ago. It was really lovely to see him and his family again (I tried to resist the temptation to say ‘my, haven’t you grown’!).
